SAT to ACT conversion — FAQ

How do you convert an SAT score to an ACT score?+

Use the official College Board / ACT concordance tables, which map comparable scores across both exams. For example, an SAT total of 1200 concords to roughly an ACT composite of 25, and a 1350 SAT concords to about a 29 ACT. Our calculator does this instantly in both directions.

What SAT score is equal to a 30 on the ACT?+

An ACT composite of 30 concords to an SAT total of roughly 1360–1380. Colleges treat these as equivalent when comparing applicants who took different tests.

Is a 1200 SAT or a 25 ACT better?+

They are essentially equivalent — a 1200 SAT concords to a 25 ACT. Which you should take depends on which format suits you; take a short diagnostic of each and commit to the one where you score higher.

Are the SAT/ACT concordance tables official?+

Yes. College Board and ACT jointly published the current concordance in 2018, and it remains the standard reference colleges use. The Digital SAT uses the same 400–1600 scale, so the concordance still applies.

Should I take the SAT or the ACT?+

All US colleges accept both equally. Strong, fast readers often prefer the ACT (with its Science section and quicker pace); students who like a calculator-friendly, adaptive format often prefer the Digital SAT. Prepvora gives you a free adaptive diagnostic of both so you can decide with data, not guesswork.
